Single-family parcels held long enough that a purchase mortgage would have run its term. Pull them live from the county, sorted by how long the deed has sat.

This infers; it does not know. No assessor or parcel layer in North Carolina carries mortgage data. Whether a deed is paid off is a lien question — was a Deed of Trust recorded, and was a Satisfaction recorded against it — and that lives at the Register of Deeds, which is not readable from a web page. What this measures is time since the last recorded conveyance: a 30-year note taken at that conveyance is retired at 30 years. Refinancing does not transfer the deed, so an owner of forty years who refinanced in 2021 looks exactly like one who has been clear since 1995. Every row carries its deed book and page — verify at the Wake Register of Deeds before you act.

Source Queried straight from your browser to the county's public service. Nothing is sent anywhere else and nothing is stored.
Single family, improved, and the year threshold all run on the county's server, so only matching parcels transfer.

30 years retires a 30-year note; 15 retires a 15
At 30, any conventional purchase mortgage taken at the conveyance has matured.
Restrict to Absentee means the mailing address differs from the site address.

What the columns mean

Years held is time since the last deed was recorded against the parcel — the only mortgage-adjacent fact the county actually publishes. Likely clear means thirty years or more, long enough that a thirty-year note taken at the conveyance has matured. Possible means fifteen to thirty: a fifteen-year note is done, a thirty-year one is not.

Absentee compares the owner's mailing address against the site address. Counties split the mailing address across columns, so the comparison is made on the street line alone — matching the joined string calls every owner absentee.

A placeholder tag on the recording date means the county never digitised the original conveyance and stamped it with an epoch instead — in Wake, 131 single-family parcels share 1 January 1975 and 96 share 1 January 1970. Registers of deeds are shut on New Year's Day, so those are not real recording dates. Years held on a tagged row is a floor: at least that long, possibly far longer.

Book and page is the deed's reference in the Register of Deeds index. That is where you confirm what this page can only infer: whether a Deed of Trust was ever recorded, and whether a Satisfaction was recorded against it.
